Procedure ^______^

(Subject: A Discourse Approach in Reading)


           This morning, I learned about procedure. I think 

procedure it interested for me because it made easy 

understand in the lesson. For procedure or instruction 

(How something is done), instructions belong to a group of

text-type concerned with procedures, which tell us how 

something is accomplished through a sequence of actions or 

steps. It is a very important genre in our society because it 

enables us to get thing done, and it is equally common in 

the oral and written mode (Derewianka, 1991:27). I like to 

learn procedure because I learned about how to make food 

for example, make recipe for banana, and make chicken 

soup, it made me know new vocabulary, ingredients and 

method in cooked food. Then, I describe about favorite food 

with my partner and talk about it. Next, I made exercise 

about match sentence with the correct picture (about how 

to make an omelette and I feel hungry too). Last, I answer 

the question from the matter of Learning a Second 

Language and It easy to do it. ^______^
Descriptive

(Subject: A Discourse Approach in Reading)







           This morning, I learned about descriptive with Dr.Usa 

Noytim. I feel good and happy in learned with teacher because 

she taught students fun and understand in the lesson. Today,

think descriptive it easy for me. For descriptive text is a text 

which says what a person, a thing, a place or animals is like. 

I learned descriptive text about the matter of Komodo Dragon 

(Vararus Komodoensis), it describe about Komodo dragon is a 

giant monitor lizard found in Komodo island, Indonesian. It can 

grow up to 3 to 4 meters in length and it live in dry open 

grassland. Next, about the matter of  Budapest in Hungary. It 

describe about history of Budapest and tour in Buda and Pest. 

Next, about the matter of Prague( capital of Czech Republic), it 

describe the city of Prague and its uniqueness. Last, I do exercise 

and answer the question form text of the above too.

The secrets

(Subject: A Discourse Approach in Reading)

         Last Monday, I learned about the secrets continued from 

yesterday and the weather was very cold and windy. I read 

about the story of Kylie’s life and shared the story with partner.

Teacher describe about story until students understand and brief 

the story part one, part two about Kylie. I think today, I feel 

good because I can brief the story and know about new 

vocabulary too. Then I will write about disapproval in characters 

of the story. It made dislike them.

      1. I dislike Kylie because she is cruelty with hen and chicks.

      2.I dislike Kylie’s mother because she leave Kylie alone in house.

      3. I dislike Philip because he shouted, hit and don’t care Kylie.

The summary in part one

        Kylie feels leave out from her mother and Philip’s 

activities. She becomes interested in the chickens in the yard. 

Somehow her secret helps her to feel less lonely. She finds a 

second egg and then found out where others are being laid by 

unhealthy-looking hen. Then he saw snails and slug. Each day she 

saw another egg and sat on the fence. When she moved into the 

house, she saw galvanized but Philip said her “it was thirty-six 

feet deep and very dangerous”. Then she looked photos, she 

thought about her father. Suddenly, she looking across very now 

and turning page.

The summary in part two

        Kylie watched the sitting on ten eggs and she takes the lid 

off the well. She starts to go down the well with her photos 

album every day. Then she watches Philip and her mother and 

wonders why her father is not with them. Until, Philip discovers 

her in the well and hits her. Then she throws the chicks down

the well, hits the hen and throws it down the well. When she 

moved into house, she chooses one special photo which makes her

feel good and cuts off her head from the special photo and 

throws it away.

Feeling about the story

I think in the story will about coping with the absence of a 

parent, problems associated with contemporary family life and 

loneliness. I think Kylie will must coping with the absence of a 

parent is she should asked her mother candid about problem 

everything. Next, in the matter about problems associated with

contemporary family life, I think the family of Kylie should take-

care Kylie and give to love with her and understand feeling in 

family too. The last, the matter about loneliness. I think it about 

loneliness of Kylie because she was feel loneliness every time, this 

thing it made she don’t to give tender feeling from mother and 

Philip.

Thinking about symbol 

I think the symbol in the story is the eggs because Kylie looked 

for the eggs every day. It comparison to the tender feeling of 

hen in sit on eggs, it is new thing for her too.

Narratives

(Subject: A Discourse Approach in Reading)


          This morning, I learned about narratives and today the 

weather very cold for me. The narratives is to entertain, i.e. to 

gain and hold the reader’s interest in a story. But Narratives 

may also seek to teach or inform, to embody the writer’s 

reflections on experience, and- perhaps most important- to 

nourish and extend the reader’s imagination. Next, I learned 

example of narrative and secrets, it made me understand about 

types of narratives and so on. I learned secrets in the last, my 

friends and I read about story of kylie and teachers describe it 

for everyone understand. I feel relaxed in this class but in learned

I have a problem about difficult vocabulary.

Recount (next from yesterday) ^__^

(Subject: A Discourse Approach in Reading)





       This morning, I learned about recount again. First, Teacher

 describe about the matter of An excursion to the Botanic 

Garden, it tell about to inform about the experience of trip to the

 Botanic Garden and teacher to give us made exercise and 

answer the question such as; Who went to the Botanic Garden?,

answer: Year three and Year four went to the Botanic Garden. 

Second, teacher asked about next exercise, it talks about Events

 of traveler in air and The disappearance of a dog. Then, we 

made exercise and the last, teacher check the answer about 

exercise. Today, I think learning and exercise it easy and I can 

understand more this. I feel happy and enjoyed. I think teacher

Recount ^___^


      This morning, I learned A Discourse Approach in Reading

with Dr.Usa Noytim and I learned about recount. I don’t know

about this the matter and I try to learned more understand. 

In a recount we reconstruct past experience. A recount is the 

unfolding of a sequence of events over time. We are using 

language to keep the past alive and help us to interpret 

experience and recount tells us about something that has 

happened. It is written for someone who wants to know was

happened and the types of recount as follow;1.Personal recount– 

retelling an activity that the writer has been personally involved 

in and may be used to build the relationship between the writer 

and the reader e.g. anecdote, diary journal, personal letter. 2. 

Factual recount – reporting the particulars of an incident by 

reconstructing factual information e.g. police reconstruction of an

accident, historical recount, biographical and autobiographical 

recounts. 3. Imaginative recount– applying factual knowledge to 

an imaginary role in order to interpret and recount events e.g. A

Day in the Life of a Roman Slave, How I Discovered Radium. For 

exercise about “My Grandpa’s Funeral in Toraja”, IT difficult for 

me because I don’t know about vocabulary but this exercise it 

interested. It made me know culture about funeral of Toraja in 

Indonesia and I feel good in learned this class too.

Discourse markers  

(Subject: A Discourse Approach in Reading)


           Yesterday, I learned about  discourse markers. I don’t know

more about this but it is interesting. I feel happy in this class 

because teacher very kind and friendly with students. By, the 

discourse markers areword or phrase that is relatively syntax-

independent and does not change the meaning of the sentence, 

and has a somewhat empty meaning. Examples of discourse 

markers include the particles "oh", "well", "now", "then", "you 

know", and "I mean", and the connectives "so", "because", "and", 

"but", and "or". In Practical English Usage Michael Swan defines a 

'discourse marker' as 'a word or expression which shows the 

connection between what is being said and the wider context'. 

For him, it is something that a) connects a sentence to what 

comes before or after, or b) indicates a speaker's attitude to what

he is saying. He gives three examples: on the other 

hand; frankly; as a matter of fact. I think this subject it difficult 

for me because I don’t have a basic about this. However, I want to

learned more and more and teacher taught students very good 

about discourse marker. It made me more understand and know 

about new word in this subject.

         For learned this subject. I think I get
knowledge various such as question, vocabulary conversation in every life etc. I like learned
with Dr.Usa Noytim because teacher teaching
good, informally and kind. It made me feel
relaxed and enjoy every time. For problem in learning, I think I had a problem about
vocabulary, sentence sequence and grammar.
Last, I feel very happy every time in learned Writing for Communication 1.

Unit : 10 : Completing Forms

       Today, I  learned about completing forms. I learned
vocabulary, writing form for go to aboard and I put
name, surname, address, date of birth, telephone and
so on in the box about Application form too.
